A SAMIRA ASGHARI IL PREMIO SEMPLICEMENTE DONNA PER I “DIRITTI UMANI”

Conosciamo meglio Samira Asghari, giocatrice della Nazionale afghana di basket, diventata nel 2018, all’età di 24 anni, il primo membro dell’Afghanistan del Comitato Olimpico Internazionale. Attivista civili e per i diritti umani, è da sempre sostenitrice dell’emancipazione delle donne e dei giovani attraverso lo sport. A lei va il riconoscimento per i “Diritti umani”.

Nata il 31 marzo 1994 nel distretto afghano di Jalrez, come molti suoi compaesani, Samira diventa rifugiata di guerra, quando è ancora una bambina, e si sposta in Iran insieme alla sua famiglia. Durante gli anni della scuola, si avvicina allo sport giocando a calcio e basket, e aprendosi così le porte per la Kateb University dove consegue la laurea in Relazioni internazionali. Nel 2010 entra a far parte della Nazionale di basket dell’Afghanistan, diventandone presto capitano e iniziando a lavorare per un’agenzia nazionale di sport femminili.

È all’interno del NOC (National Olympic Committee) afghano che prende avvio la carriera olimpica di Samira: qui si trova a ricoprire, per la prima volta, posizioni da dirigente sportivo, come quella di direttore finanziario e vicesegretario generale e, dopo solo pochi anni, nel 2018 diventa il primo membro eletto dall’Afghanistan del Comitato Olimpico Internazionale: una nomina che la rende la figura più giovane entrata a far parte del CIO. Al suo interno, Samira ha profuso il suo impegno in diverse commissioni: dal 2019 è nel Coordinamento dei Giochi olimpici di Los Angeles 2028, mentre nel 2020 si unisce al Coordinamento dei Giochi invernali di Gangwon 2024. Nel 2019, la Federazione dei giornalisti sportivi afghani le conferisce, infatti, il premio “Sport Personality of the year”.

Ex membro del Women and Sport Committee dell’OCA, il Consiglio Olimpico dell’Asia, Samira è anche una delle fondatrici dell’Afghanistan Peace and Sport Council e volontaria del dipartimento Youth and Sport dell’ARCS (Afghan Red Crescent Society). Menzionata tra le prime 10 donne dell’Afghanistan dalle Nazioni Unite, con un background di studi in scienze politiche e un’esperienza da amministratore di audit interno per l’IR, il Mistero degli affari esteri afghano, sta attualmente effettuando uno stage presso il Dipartimento di sviluppo della Federazione Equestre Internazionale, oltre ad essere impegnata con un master in Amministrazione e tecnologia dello sport all’AISTS di Losanna.

Samira Asghari is player of the Afghan Women National Basketball Team, who in 2018, at the age of 24, became the first member of Afghanistan of the International Olympic Committee. As civil and human rights activist, she has always supported women and youth empowerment through sport. In Castiglion Fiorentino she will receive the "Human Rights" award.

Born on March 31st, 1994, in the Afghan district of Jalrez, like many of her compatriots, shortly after her birth, Samira became a war refugee, and moved to Iran with her family. During her school years, she approached sports playing football and basketball: a passion that led her to the Kateb University where she graduated with a degree in International Relationships. In 2010, she joined the Afghanistan National Basketball Team, soon becoming its captain, and started to work for a national women’s sports agency.

But it is within the Afghan NOC (National Olympic Committee) that Samira’s olympic career began: there she held, for the first time, sport manager positions, as that of Financial director and Deputy Secretary General and, after only a few years, in 2018, she became the first Afghanistan-elected member of the International Olympic Committee: an election that made her the youngest person to join the IOC. Within the IOC, Samira has been involved in the activities of several committees: since 2019, she is in the Coordination of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while in 2020 she joined the Coordination of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Games. In 2019, the Afghan Federation of Sports Journalists awarded her as the "Sport Personality of the year".

Former member of the OCA Women and Sport Committee, the Asian Olympic Council, Samira is also one of the founders of the Afghanistan Peace and Sport Council and a volunteer of the Youth and Sport department of the ARCS (Afghan Red Crescent Society). Mentioned in the Top 10 Afghan women by the United Nations, with a background in political science and an experience as internal audit administrator for the IR (the Afghan Foreign Affairs Ministry), she is currently doing an internship at the Development Department of the International Equestrian Federation, as well as being engaged with a master’s degree in Administration and Sport Technology at the AISTS in Lausanne.
